This cutting edge therapy has been in use by Massage Therapists since 2002. Cupping dates back to 28 AD, when the Chinese first used animal horns to drain toxins out of snakebites and skin pustules. It is accomplished by placing a cup on the skin and drawing the tissue up with a vacuum gun or bulb. The cup can then be moved over tight constricted areas or left in place to draw stagnant blood and toxins to the skin where they are carried away by the lymphatic system. Massage Cupping is used to soften tight tissues, loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue, bring in hydration and blood flow to the tissues, and drain excess fluid and toxins by opening up the lymphatic pathways. Oil is first applied to the skin to aide in sliding of the cup.
How does it feel?
It is often experienced as deep warmth and a tingling lasting long after the treatment is done. Water should be drunk before and after the therapy to hydrate the body. If the cups are left in place for a short time you may end up with a “cup kiss” which is old stagnant blood or fluid that will dissipate in hours to days depending on your state of wellness.
How is it different from massage?
Massage cupping was added to my services in 2009.
I want to share with you about my new equipment which is providing more choices in therapy! It’s the latest and greatest in Massage Cupping TM, Vacuum Mobilization Equipment.
The extra large cups are perfect for the large areas of the back, gluteus, hamstrings, and any large muscles. They are really designed for breast work, increases, decreases, lifting or just releasing scar tissue from surgeries and can drain stagnation from healthy breast tissue.
The glass cups are more comfortable on the skin, and now I can use both hands moving a cup in each one, instead of doing all that pumping with one hand!! That gives me a very large choice in therapeutic techniques to accomplish your goals! This machine will keep a steady vacuum pressure, which I set and will also pulse at regular intervals that I choose - an easier way to measure progress!! The large white cups with the ball bearing on the rims will help to dissolve away cellulite and scar tissue that you don’t want. The smaller glass cups will feel great on the face for those with TMJ or who desire a Face Lift!
